We offer ultra-high quality professional whetstone knife sharpening executed with precision by a former chef who saw a problem for home chefs and solved it.
The problem? Knowing his skills, family and friends were constantly requesting for him to sharpen their knives. He was more than happy to do it but it dawned on him…for home chefs who don’t have the skills, tools, or time to sharpen their knives on their own, getting them sharpened was a cumbersome procedure. People did not know who to call, how much it should cost, and most of all how to transport them safely.
Sharpen Society combines a professional quality product with a white-glove pickup and delivery service for our customers’ convenience and peace of mind. Now serving Fairfield and Westchester Counties and occasional pop-ups in New York City. was a procedure and was extremely cumbersome
How Do I Know When My Knives Need Sharpening?
A sharp knife should glide through food effortlessly — no force, no sawing. When your blade starts crushing tomatoes instead of slicing them cleanly, slipping off onions, or struggling with herbs, it’s time.
You might also notice:
Uneven cuts or torn edges
More pressure needed while chopping
Food sticking to the blade
A dull “thud” instead of a crisp slice
Even with gentle home use, most knives need sharpening every few months to stay precise and safe. Dull knives aren’t just frustrating — they’re dangerous. Sharpen Society keeps your tools performing like new, so every meal feels as effortless as it should.
Why Do We Sharpen With Waterstone?
Most mechanical sharpeners use fast grinding wheels that remove steel aggressively, create uneven edges, and shorten a knife’s lifespan. Waterstones sharpen more precisely and preserve the blade’s original structure, which is why they are preferred by professional chefs and bladesmiths.
Precision: Waterstones allow controlled, hand-guided sharpening at the exact angle the blade is designed for. This results in a cleaner edge with a consistent micro-bevel — not the jagged or overheated edge produced by grinding wheels.
Extend the Life of Your Knives: Mechanical sharpeners remove large amounts of metal quickly. Waterstones remove only the minimal amount necessary. This maintains the knife’s geometry, thickness, and strength over years of use.
Protects Steel Temper: High-end knives are heat-treated to achieve specific hardness and performance. Mechanical wheels generate heat that can damage the temper. Waterstones stay cool, protecting the integrity of the steel.
Restores (and is often better than) the Factory Edge: Factory edges are quickly machine-ground. A properly waterstone-sharpened edge is refined and polished, allowing effortless cutting through delicate herbs, tough proteins, and precision slices with minimal pressure.
